problem uploading essays. . .HELP pls

This may be a stupid question but how long is it normally supposed to take for the essays to upload on the common app. . .because mine have been going for around 45 min. Im slightly freaking out b/c I hv 3 more essays to upload by my EA deadline tonight(yeah I know I waited until the last minute). I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. . .
anyone help would be appreciated. . .

We had this problem last night, and eventually it timed out and we got an error message. We opened up a ticket with the Common App tech support people and they replied that they didnt see any issues (which is odd because several of us were havig issues) but they did offer that if we sent them my daughter's essays, they would upload them for us. Which they did (and we confirmed that they did indeed upload the right essay in the right section of her app). So, I recommend you click on 'help' and open a ticket right away. They were very quick to respond last night and uploaded her stuff within 5 min.

It should take no more than maybe five minutes for the slowest internet connected. Maybe 10, but still. Mine took literally ten seconds.

^ what format was your essay in, like pdf., rtf.?

can anyone else help.. .
I sent a ticket to tech support around 4 hrs ago, but still nothing.
Time is winding down, does anyone have any suggestions?

i can't log into commonapp.org after i entered my log in info!!!!!! I need to sumbit app tonite!!!!!!!!!

Are you hitting UPLOAD, then BROWSE, then Clicking on your .pdf document file then UPLOAD? It should only take a few minutes. Then you should get a VIEW DOCUMENT button that you can press to make sure it worked. Sorry I can't be of more help.

wildchartermage,

Try closing browser and enterring commonap.org all over again. That worked for my child once when things got hung up. Good Luck!

When this happened last night, our last resort backup plan was to print out the app and the essays and mail them. We didn't have to do that of coures. Trick is to find a post office which will post mark your app before midnight tonite, but it may not be impossible.

seniormom. .. where exactly did you send your essays. Tech supprt still hasnt bothered to reply and I think I may jst email my essays to them with a note explaining my situation. . .

I think that as the deadline comes closer and nothing else is working, you should email the school and explain the situation, attaching your essays in that email. They shouldn't blame you for a technical difficulty. On Monday, call them to confirm they received them.

Use PDF for essays, they seem to work better than DOC, DOCX, and RTF

YES!! for anyone having the same problem as me. . .download adobe acrobat for free and it will literally take 5 sec. to convert your essay into pdf form. . .then you'll be able to upload your essay with no problem. Unfortunately, I submitted my supplement like 3 min after midnight ET, and now it says 11/02 as the submission date. . .i don't know how this will effect my application as I live in CA. . .but whatever.. . .I'm jst so relieved

Yeah, PDF almost always works

You can also install PDF Creator which is an excellent PDF printer. You could also get the PDF addin for MS Office 07 if you've got that.

i converted my document to pdf. but it still says Error uploading file. Please try again.!

Please help!

yeah i have the same problem with txt files, pdf files
its not uploading essays…

^ me too!! is there a solution yet?

Oh, good, I thought I was the only one -__- I HATE the Common App. First, it crashes this morning at 7, not allowing us to save/submit anything, and now it refuses to upload anything.

crap. i hope i don’t miss the deadline. I tried logging out and logging back in. I enabled popup blockers. but it is NOT helping. I submitted a ticked to commonapp but they haven’t replied yet.

Any help?

i think its a combination of the load of yale apps coming in and the y2k9 bug…
