Problem when you're a 2017+ graduate

Hi so many have heard anyone graduating 2017 will be taking the revised SAT and PSAT.
Yesterday was the national test taking day and I took the practice psat new version. It was extremely longer to me because each section was at least 50 mins long except writing section. Not sure if the new SAT is released but I’m thinking the format will be similar but even longer.

I’m wondering what test to take. Should I study for the old SAT and then take the new one? Because there aren’t any released books for the new SAT. Also the essay is now optional but if I going for selective colleges, I should probably take the essay section…?
Would it be better to take the ACT instead? I know colleges take the ACT but not sure if SAT scores are more “prestigous” than the ACT because I hardly hear people at school talking about ACT.
I haven’t started studying but planning to this summer. I’m also taking two online courses and have a babysitting job so studying might be little.
What do you guys think?

Also I’m more math oriented but surprisingly not science. I love English but interestingly I did the worst in language section of psat.
So I really don’t know what type of person I am, sigh*.

My suggestion to you would be to work on the basics for now, which will help for either test. You have some serious deficiencies in your writing (e.g. you can’t say “many have heard anyone graduating” or “if I going for” or “extremely longer”…) which you will need to conquer before taking either test if you want a great score. I would suggest Erica Meltzer’s books. In terms of ACT vs SAT-- it doesn’t matter. I would say 2400 is marginally more impressive than a 36 simply because there is no averaging which can lead to a higher composite, but if you can get a high ACT score then that is much better a mediocre SAT. Take whichever you feel more comfortable with, and I would probably suggest that if you want to take the SAT, to do it before the changes next March.

I think taking the ACT would be a good option. Don’t worry about “prestige”. While the SAT is more globally recognized, colleges don’t care which test you take. A high score on the ACT is just as good as a high score on the SAT when it comes to college admissions. Consider taking a few ACT practice tests, and see if its right for you. If you decide to take the ACT, study rigorously and get a 34+. That would put you in an excellent position for top universities.
Best of luck,
