Problem with A-G

hey everyone,

My school uses both semester and full-year courses (the semester courses meet everyday while the full-year ones met every other day) They are both weighted equally. Unfortunately, a lot of my courses were semester courses, and I’m not sure that Berkeley will understand that under my school system counts semesters and full-year courses in the same way. What should I do??

Berkeley counts semesters and trusts the high school to calculate whether (depending on number of meetings, etc.) the school is classifying a course as a semester’s worth or a year’s (two semesters) worth. The differences should be apparent on the transcript because the units, whatever the grades in those, will be calculated along with grades. Study your transcript. If units (sometimes called “hours”) are not indicated, ask the guidance office to clarify that (or show you where that notation is), but it would be hard to believe that these distinctions are not already on the transcript. Schools have it in their own best interest to support their own students wherever they apply (and particularly to UC if you are a CA student). The vast majority of students apply to the publics in their own States, so the high schools, despite getting many things wrong, really do try get that part right!

I am out of state actually. The issue is a full-year course has the same value as a semester course. I’m not even sure why they asked me for which semester I took each course…I don’t see that as relevant. Also, my school reports only the final grade on the transcript, nothing else.

since I marked some ap’s as full year courses and some as semesters, maybe they will get it.
