Problem with Extra Curriculars

I am a Sophomore in HS, and I really don’t have much to show when it comes to extracurriculars. I don’t plan on going to any ivy league or anything like that, but I would certainly like to go to a good college.

What I currently have:

  • Pre-Med Club
  • Finance Club

I plan to do Model UN, Quiz Bowl, Tennis, and Youth & Government next year during the rest of my high school years. Not to mention I’ll be getting a summer job too.

Most times, I just enjoy playing with my guitar and spending times with friends and family. I just haven’t really cared for extra-curriculars ever. The only reason why I’m doing the things I mentioned above is because I need to have something on my college application.

You’re more than fine. Colleges don’t care about the number of extracurriculars you’re in (unless that number is 0), only your involvement in those ECs. Things you do outside of school clubs count as ECs, too; I dedicate a lot of time to playing my instrument not in a school band/orchestra, oil paint for fun, and coded a bunch of websites. I mentioned all three as “extracurriculars.”

Also, it’s probably better if you don’t have such a wide range of ECs. It makes you look like you’re doing them only to write them on your resume. Focus on one, two, or (maybe) three subjects that you really, genuinely like.

What you have listed sounds fine (and fun – go Quiz Bowl!)
