Problem with financial aid

I applied for financial aid this year and was informed recently that I did not submit my tax returns from the school. I didn't do so because I got an email from the finaid office saying it wasn't required. Now the application is "late" and they no longer guarantee I will get anything. I was wondering if there was anything I could do or do I just need to wait. I don't really want to post any more information, so if you want to help, please PM me.

Are you talking about FAFSA? It sounds as if you were verified and they’re still waiting for the verification info. Send it to them asap - it’s generally a one page form and tax returns. You must do it to get Stafford loans or any other type of federal/state aid you might be eligible for.

The verification requests we received all came via mail. If you didn’t receive it, call and ask for a duplicate.

No. The school wanted a copy of my tax returns. I was told before that they didn’t. It has nothing to do with FAFSA

Yes, the school is the one that verifies your FAFSA info - every school is required by law to verify at least 1/3 of the FAFSA’s they receive every year. Some verify all of them. Tax returns are required for this.

Profile schools may also ask for tax return info for verifying Profile info…that’s what I was getting at.

In any case, you must comply with their request or forfeit your student aid.
