Problem with "friends"?

I go to a school that is competitive with around 65-70% of the students being Asian, me included. I don't have a lot of close friends (~1-2), like...friends that I would really trust. I have other "friends", but we're really only there to help each other out, more of a mutual convenience than a real friendship. I don't hang out with them after school or anything. We might talk on Facebook once or twice per day but it's mostly for questions on homework or for help. Most of these "friends" are the smart type and I tend to trust them less. Most of my real friends are those who are not that great academically. I'm not saying a real friend can't be smart and sincere, but I only know like one person who fits both criteria. Am I being too pessimistic to think that most of my "friends" have ulterior motives? I mean, they wouldn't purposely do something to damage me, but they certainly won't go out of their way to help me. Some of them always try to dodge the question by saying things like "I don't know" or trying to give me a vague answer when, for example, I asked them what they planned to do during summer. I also see a lot of people with fake personalities.......Question is, are any of you guys like that too? Do you also find the smarter people in your class less trust-able as opposed to those that may not be as smart?

My school is extremely small, so everybody knows everybody. I tend to have a lot of friends I can trust, but maybe I’m the not trustable one. I’m the only one sucked into the CC hype self-studying APs and what not lol. I feel trustable, but I guess I’m not the one deciding that.
