Problem with Recs

Ok so I know that you usually have to get a rec from a humanities like english and history, and a rec from either math or science.
My problem is that I am pretty sure that I can only get them from my english and history teachers, and I can't get one from math or science because my teachers are really picky about who they recommend. (plus my math teacher doesn't like me that much....)

But during this coming summer, and last summer I will be able to get a rec from my mentor who I will be working at an Internship at Rutgers University in his bioengineering lab.

Do you guys think that it will be enough if I have the two humanities, and the rec from my mentor, especially since my math and science teachers won't write me one.

Btw, I wanna apply to engineering. So my top choice is probs University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and Virginia Tech, and University of Maryland.

For many schools, I don’t think you have to… Also, you can always ask teachers from sophomore year if you can’t find a suitable teacher from your junior year, though junior year teachers are preferred since they may remember you better, as they have taught you the most recently.

You don’t always need recs from two subject areas, though I find it strange you’re doing a science internship and want to be an engineer and yet your science/math teachers are unwilling to recommend you.

Check for the schools you’re applying to. You probably will need science/math recs for engineering schools.
