so one of my main teachers who i think wrote a very good recommendation for me only thought i was applying to the two schools i asked her to send out earlier in october. howeverrr, since i didn't get into my ED school and have yet to hear back from my rolling one, i need to send out all my other apps by Jan. 1st. problem - my teacher didn't save the letter on her computer and the ones that she did print out are already mailed to the admissions offices for those 2 schools. she felt bad so she just gave me a generic recommendation that she has on hand and told me i can send that in. but my application is not outstanding as it is and a "generic" recommendation will definitely do nothing to improve my chances.. yes i have other teachers to ask but it's so last-minute and this particular teacher knew me the best and wrote me an excellent recommendation before.. so what should i do? should i just send in the blah one? or should i call the admissions office of those other schools and ask them if they could possibly mail the letter back to my guidance counselor or something? i really doubt they'd do this but is it worth a shot? thanks in advance

anyoneeee? im seriously stressing out. helppp!

Have your math teacher write another rec. Don't ask any of the colleges to send back a rec...you'll be in a weaker position at that school. They will wonder why you asked (and come to their own conclusions).

well i could just ask the school that rejected me.. it's the least they can do bitter tone

The recs become a part of their file...would not be able to get them back, as they are now the property of the school. Sorry

But maybe the school that rejected you could mail your school a photocopy of your rec, or fax it or something. Just explain them the situation. I think it's worth a try.

If you can't get a hold of the original rec, definitely ask another teacher instead of using the generic rec. Can you ask your GC immediately if he/she can call the college and try to get the rec back? I would start preparing stuff for another teacher in the meantime, though, just to be safe.
