I'm aware of numerous problems with the Common App but have not seen a post on this problem. The latest problem is with getting the completion check mark on the Testing Section. D entered ACT, SAT and AP scores and had a check mark. Because her ACT score is a little better than her SAT, we decided to remove the SAT scores and focus on the ACT only. After removing the SAT score section, the section no longer had a check mark. I tried adding the SAT score section back and there is still not a check mark. Just messing with it, I answered the question for "International Students" and then the check mark appeared. My daughter is not an international student so this does not seem appropriate but she will likely not be able submit without that question answered. I double-checked her demographics and there is nothing that should flag her as an International Student. Is any one else having this problem? Any suggestions?

Just another CA glitch. I also had to check “no” in one of the int’l questions in order to get the green check. Leaving it blank would not work

Thanks, Big Dad. Because I was not hearing any complaints about that problem, I was wondering if it was just me and that we had done something wrong and couldn’t figure it out.

Ohmmom,

Was going to post a note about the same problem, and then came upon yours. Would love to resolve this before my son submits the common app, but we’re starting to bump up against EA deadlines.

On the page where CA lists all the bugs they state that if you can’t get a green check mark for a section you’ve completed that you should contact “our applicant support team”. I have searched the website high and low and can’t find out how to do this. Have you figured out how to do this? My son did send them a twitter message.

Thanks.

To e-mail a question, do this:

Click on Help Center from the CA homepage

Click “Ask a Question” tab

Select one of the question topics

Click on “My Answer is Not Here” button to get e-mail window

(they don’t make it easy)

Bigdadreed,

You’re a lifesaver, sort of. I NEVER would have found a way to send them an email without your help. Thank you SO MUCH. So, I filled out all of the required fields on that ‘ask a question’ page, but when I hit submit I get an immediate error message that reads “invalid token/session”.

Again, we’re bumping up against some EA deadlines, not this week, but soon. They really don’t have their act together. It’s ugly.

Happy that I could help. This whole situation is just an absolute debacle.

OK, after multiple unsuccessful attempts to ‘ask a question’ we logged off, logged back on, followed exactly the same steps, and then got through. Received a confirmation that our question was received.

If we get any response (not exactly holding our breath) I’ll post it here. Good luck to all.

OK, here’s their response (hat tip to bigdadreed again):

Thank you for your message.
The Leaving Exams question is required for ALL students to answer. We realize the text of this question is confusing and we are working to resolve that.
Leaving examinations are common in non-US educational systems. The term “state” refers to international governments, not US states. Most students attending US high schools should respond “no” to this question.
Thank you,
Jon

Translation…we obviously screwed this one up as it clearly says that this question is for international students. But, just mark it no & we’re all good as that’s easier than fixing it.

I just wish this was was their biggest mistake!

Bigdad,

I also love the line “we are working to resolve that”. What sort of “work” does it take? Don’t work to resolve it. Resolve it. It’s not such a complicated fix. Re-word the text of the question. Or change the software so it doesn’t need a response to that question to consider the section complete. This is not rocket science.

And as you stated, this is a small problem c/w a whole lot of bigger problems. If they can’t fix this simple problem, it doesn’t instill a whole lot of confidence in their working out the other bugs.
