I told my teacher 1-2 weeks ago that I would need her rec done by December 1st but she might have forgotten. I need them done so that I can submit my common app and supp by December 1st for the scholarship consideration. If she forgets, should I just submit my app anyways? How much would that lower my chances of getting in or getting any scholarship if I don't have any form of rec from my counselor or teacher?

Submit the application by deadline no matter what. Follow up with the teacher asap if the recommendation is not showing up. Email now if you have her email addy.

It is your responsibility to ensure that all required application materials are sent to USC by the posted deadlines. Application materials submitted online by 11:59 p.m. (in your current time zone) on the deadline day will be considered “on time.” Applications submitted after the deadlines listed above are not guaranteed a priority review. In no case will applications be returned or application fees refunded.

Yes, submit the app. Schools know that sometimes teachers are late getting the LORs in a bit.

Send an email to the teacher as a friendly reminder. Be polite and upbeat…just a short note…something like…

Dear Mrs. …

I hope you’re enjoying the Thanksgiving weekend. I know that this is a hectic time so I just wanted to mention that the LOR for the USC scholarship is due Dec 1st. (Include any instructions of how to submit if necessary.)

If you can, please send me a short email response when this is done so that I’ll know that my application is complete.

Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

Sincerely,
(your name)

BTW…some people prefer that YOU write up the LOR and then they tweak it a bit and send it in. You may want to pre-write one up, include it in the reminder.

If you do this, then in the above note, include the following: Because I know that this is a busy time, I’ve gone ahead and pre-written a LOR that might make things easier for you. Feel free to change, add, or exclude as you wish.

(then below your signature, include a copy of the the LOR that you’ve written up. You can google to find sample LORs for you to use as YOUR guideline)
