i applied early to cornell and on the common app for the activity section i wrote in all the hours next to my activities. however, i attached a resume and the hours for my activities were different on the resume, and were not the same as on the common app. i also had a word spelled wrong on my resume as well. will they notice this, and if so how much weight does it play in their decision?

The hours thing could make them think that you were making up hours, essentially lying, and they could question the credibility of the hours, a for the spelling mistake if it is only one error, probably not much of a deal, but if there are many, then that is a big deal, don't worry though, its less than a week away, if you are qualified they will take you

Do you think they actually look at the resumes?

If they weren't that much different, I doubt Cornell will care too much.

The common app is so similar to a resume especiall since it has the extra information section that there can't be much difference, and yes I think they make it a requirement that they read everything you have sent them, but sometimes they say that sending too many things like 6 teacher recs can have a big negative impact on your application, i think they look at them, but there can't be much more info on there than the common app

do u think that they compare information on the common app to the resume? like do you think they will check to make sure all the information is parallel between both because the resume isnt required so they might just skim it

it will be over in about 5 days don't worry about it, there is nothing you can do, if you get deferred or rejected b/c of it then you know to double check your RD apps, if you get in then who cares whether there were discrepencies. I think they take time to look over everything, so if one says 6 hours and another 7, no big deal, but if its like 4 hours on the resume and 12 on the common app, well that could look really bad, but try not to worry about, it will only make these 5 days longer, relax, if you get in, you get in, if you don't, you don't along with 65% of the people.

kentucky: do you know if they received your resume? I also sent a 'resume', listing my activities/awards. But on the actual commonapp activities sheet I did not list any awards, so it is pretty important that they received it. I'm hoping that they did. Anyways, regarding your question about the hours, everyone's is an estimate so a small discrepancy is nothing to worry about.

yea i sent the resume with the common app in a packet so im pretty sure they received it. do you think they would have contacted me if they thought i was lying or they just would have rejected/deferred me without talkin with my gc or myself?

how big was the discrepancy? Either way, I would not worry about it affecting your decision... if they were going to accept you and then noticed that you messed up, it wouldn't change a thing. Likewise if you get deferred/rejected, it is not because of this. Don't sweat it. most likely this is such a minor deal that they would not bother to ask you about it.

yea im just not going to worry about
