Problems transferring from UC Davis to SFSU

Hi everyone,

I don't know if anyone else has experienced this. Most of the problems I read about are people not being able to transfer from CSU to UC.

But I have the opposite problem. When I was accepted at Davis, I still wanted to keep my apartment in the Bay Area. So I rented a second apartment in Davis. (I wasn't accepted at Berkeley.) But two apartments got to be a huge financial drain, so I couldn't do it anymore. I transferred away from UC Davis (after completing a quarter) to SFSU in order to have only one apartment.

But now, SFSU won't accept my 14 units I took at Davis. I can't find anything about this in the SFSU Bulletin. Does anyone have any idea why?

Thank you. (By the way, when I was at Davis, I met only one person who successfully transferred there from a CSU. It is actually possible, but it's a very low priority for the UC Admissions people.)

wait, wth? why would anyone transfer to SFSU, that school is crap!

I disagree.

yo man. i'm only gonna say this once. SFSU is one of the worst CSU's there is. compared to davis, regardless of cost, it is 'fail' status. im not even kidding. this isnt what you want to hear, but as a concerned citizen, i have to warn you

even though it may be a good decision financially, socially, and whatever else

it is a WORSE SCHOOL. the facilities are **** poor, the faculty is **** poor, the dorms are disgusting, i could go on and on and on...but im telling you man please please please stay in davis. drop the apartment in SF..

idk man, it says of the people that attend SFSU, only 1% of the people that take the SAT get over 700 in math. seems like a pretty average school to me.

come to think of it, probably lower than average.....

...you'd be better off attending SJSU over SFSU. Seriously though, UCD to SFSU? Why? What are you majoring in? I can't imagine any programs that are better at SFSU vs. UCD.

Is SFSU that bad of a school? I'm from San Francisco, and I really had no idea. Well, I have heard that SJSU is better than SFSU though. Can someone elaborate more on why SFSU is not really a ..good school?

The title of this thread really captured my attention because I go to UC Davis as well, and I was wondering about transferring to SFSU because I'm thinking about being an accountant and all.

It's a bad school because of prestige whores and spoiled nutjobs that think all california schools besides UCB and UCLA suck. No, it's not a bad school. If a school has the major you want, and you like the school, go for it.

I have seen SFSU-- the dorms are ugly, the campus itself is ugly, the people are ugly, and dont even get me started on the gym and daly city (the location of the school) because those are just TERRIBLE. I was so scared when i walked around the campus because there were bums going in and out of the campus and the campus wasnt even lighted enough. Also, SFSU is not a residential campus, its a commuter school, so if you want to make friends...good luck!

if you have to go to a CSU, i'd say SFSU is avg or so. good teachers, nice people there. but the main problem is overcrowded and hard to get classes, especially GE ones. in size its the smallest CSU campus, yet has a student population over 29,000. the avg graduation time there for most students i 6 yrs. i went there for a couple sems and decided to go to a CCC and transfer to another school. if you decide to stay in the bay area and want to go to a CSU, i would recommend SJSU or Sonoma. SFSU isnt a bad school , i just have issues with it being over crowded and hard to get classes

S.F.S.U. has a double accreditation, which many school don’t. San Francisco State University is regionally accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).The college of business is also accredited The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International). In order to teach there, Professors (not instructors) must have a PhD and publish once a year.

If the former school does not have matching criteria, S.F.S.U. will not accept the class.

Additionally, S.F.S.U. accepts about 50% of applicants. So not everyone can get it.

The school also carries many other different accreditations and has some top programs in the nation and even the world and has some of the best records for student success after graduation. U.S. News & World Report ranks San Francisco State University 1st in reputation among its “Western University peers” in 2000

I don’t get all this dissing towards SF state. But I also don’t understand why you couldn’t just drop your Bay Area apartment, a place you’d probably only see once a week at most for a few years. Is keeping it really more important than your Davis education?

Why are you concerned about a measley 14 credits? That’s about one semester’s worth. It’ll probably take you 5 years to get your BA/BS anyhow, what’s an extra semester?

Also, you seem VERY attached to your SF apartment, enough to quit Davis… so an extra semester or two at SFSU again shouldn’t be a big deal because, well, it is in SF!

This thread is 4 years old. It was only revived because a SFSU rep wanted to try to convince us that SFSU is a good school.

I am currently an UC Davis student. Though I love it here (nice people, lots of trees, clean, chill environment, lots of resources), I must say that UC Davis has a very difficult curriculum with little grade inflation (at least for the weeder classes). Like one person mentioned, less than 1 percent of SFSU students scored better than 700 on a portion of the SAT. That could give you an edge for grad/med/law/professional school. I know the OP has already probably graduated by this time, but I just want to bring out this point as a reason why some people may choose SFSU over Davis.
