I heard that it is incredibly difficult to get the classes that you need here at davis, is that true?

My engineering friend can’t sign up for his classes and he’s stuck taking stuff like child development, which doesn’t pertain to his major at all.

Is it really like that in UC Davis when you’re not an Honors student?

What happens is that you are given a specific date and time for Pass 1. Athletes get first priority (according to what an athlete in my drama class mentioned last quarter), then seniors, then juniors, then sophomores, then freshmen. If you miss your Pass 1 time, you have to either wait for Pass 1 Open Registration or for Pass 2 (which is at a later date, and usually by Pass 2, nearly all the classes have been filled up). Some classes are open only to majors for Pass 1 and open to non-majors for Pass 2 (like the Microbiology classes. If I wanted to take MIC 102, I would have to wait for Pass 2 because I’ve heard Pass 1 is reserved for Microbiology majors).

In smaller classes, there’s more competition to get in since there’s a limited number of seats.

I think honors sign up with special needs and with the athletes first, I think I read that on the website but it might be for a different school that I read that

Well, I’m in engineering and I’ll say it hasn’t been easy, but I haven’t had to
sign up for any ‘child development’ classes. I am having trouble getting EME 050,
but luckily it isn’t a huge bottleneck. I was waitlisted on my chem courses, but
was able to get them all by checking sisweb constantly, and showing up very
early on the 1st day. I took one of the required upper division GE classes last
quarter because I couldn’t get the engineering ones I wanted, but I’m not behind
or anything.
I was at the tail end of registration in the beginning, but have slowly moved up
a bit (people dropping, taking fewer units, etc). The people in front of me all
had tons of AP credits (I had 14) and they have always got in their classes during
pass I.
