Problems with Math ACT

Can anybody help me on scoring higher on the math ACT please? On all the other sections of the test, I have been getting high 20s to 30s, but my best score for the math portion has been an 18. Then I took the test later and got a 15. I can do math well; I have passed my math classes with B's and A's, but I can't figure out how to do well on the test. I think my problem is that I don't know when to use specific equations for certain problems. I look at their problems, and I don't know which equation to use really. Can anybody give me advice on this please or advice in general about the test? Thank you.

I think you should as much practice tests as possible and try to solve problems by using a formulas for the first time. Also sparknotes’ sat math preparation is really useful thing. I got 23 on my first, math 30. Good luck!

Yeah, me 2 I got a 15 lol…

Well, I can use formulas, but I don’t really know which formula to use for which problem. Can anybody give me advice on this matter or on anything that might help please?

nump…

I sent you a PM.

I got a 36 on math on the June 9 ACT and never found myself using “formulas”. I just sort of knew and applied all of the rules I have learned in math. You also have to be able to improvise when a seemingly abstruse problem arises. The best way I think you can improve your score is by learning and practicing anything you don’t know that could appear on the ACT math. I can’t guarantee you a 36 by doing this because some questions will be challenging and take what I consider innate capability–I may be wrong–however, I can guarantee that the studying will pay off and you will at least get in the 30’s. Also, it helps to be very maticulous: the ACT makers like to throw in extraneous stipulations here and there so that having a calculator isn’t enough to get the occasional illusory, yet easy, problem correct. Good Luck!
