Problems with sending in the $800 deposit

A few questions… :]

As far as I know, I am supposed to send in the deposit through business reply mail in the admissions package. But considering that i’m an international student outside US, the package is going to take considerable time getting here. for the first college I got an acceptance, the package came in a month later. How am I supposed to meet the May 1st deadline if I still don’t have the admissions package?? Does this happen to anyone else??

Also, the deposit is to be received by May 1st, or to be sent by that time?? ( I know, a stupid question, but I’m trying to make sure)

anyone????? this is urgent!

I think they would understand since you're an international applicant. just call nyu and explain the situation. that way they'll know your deposit is on its way even if it's really late.

It's just the postmark.

They look at the postmark. However, they do want it early because getting housing is also pretty compeititive. Not everyone gets housing so it is best you notify NYU. This is a problem that the Housing department could best work with you.

I would call the university, however you are guaranteed housing, you just might not get the dorm you want if you respond too late. From the NYU website:

"Students are guaranteed University housing for their entire undergraduate academic career provided that they continue to meet all application, payment, registration and occupancy conditions. Students are not guaranteed a specific hall or room placement."

thanks - but i've got another question. i received the candidate reply from by email attachment (the package is never likely to arrive on time). i've heard that i'm supposed to pay the deposit by money order. but how am i supposed to identify myself on the money order? do i enclose the money order in the same envelope as the candidate reply form??

There are sections on Money Orders to record the name/address of the sender.

In the notes section, make sure to wrrite your ID number.
