Problems with the Reading Section:

I can not manage to read all four sections.. I only get though three.

I just did a practice test and this is how it turned out:

Passage 1 | Prose Fiction
Time took to:
Read - 4.3 min
Questions - 5.3 min
Total Time - 9.6 min

Questions right - 10/10

Passage 2 | Social Science
Time took to:
Read - 5 min
Questions - 6.3 min
Total Time - 11.3 min

Questions right - 10/10

Passage 3 | Humanities
Time took to:
Read - 4.5 min
Questions - 8.1 min
Total Time - 12.6 min

Questions right - 5/10

Passage 4 | Natural Science
With 1.5 min left I just bubbled in C/H for all the answers, since I had no time to read.

Questions right - 3/10

Therefore I ended up with a scale socre of 26 on the reading part of the test.

What do you suggest that I do?
I am taking the test tomorrow morning, and it is already 7 PM right now.
I have been studying for the past few weeks, but not as hard as I haved done previously for the SAT.

Any quick tips, that I can use on test day? Also, this is the only practice test that I have, because my family is short on money so I am usnig the free ACT practice test that is available in guidance.

Don’t read any of the passages except the prose… just jump straight into the questions and refer back to the passages. Save the general idea questions for last because by the time you have finished the other questions, you should have a good idea of what it’s about.

That is what I have always done for the SAT but Sparknotes said to READ FIRST. I agree with you though, I should go back to my SAT ways. Thanks.

I would just read the intro paragraph and conclusion, and the topic sentences of each paragraph, then go to the questions. Reading should take you about 2 minutes then, leaving you 7 minutes to answer questions

Thanks hopeful2468.

I have found the ACT Prep from sparknotes to be very misleading. I followed their strategy for science also and I ended up not finishing. They wanted me to read everything and understand the graphs before going to the questions. I tried it their way and I did horrible. I read the questions then found the answers and I did it a lot quicker. Also, I only missed 5 questions in all.

Yeah for the science the descriptions are not that useful half the time. The graphs and charts give you all the data
