i really like williams and want to apply ed to optimize my chances. i would say my gpa/extracurrics/recs are decent. However, i need some advice when it comes to the SAT, currently my SATI is a 2210 (680m 800cr 730w) and my SAT IIs are 740 Lit, 670mII, and 550 Latin (sad because i have 3 NLE summas and i want to be a classics major). My problem is that i beleive there is only one test date in october before ed in novemeber, so if i could improve drastically on either test(s), which should i retake. plus, my latin score is low and i love latin, but they dont offer the test in october. also, would applying ed to williams even be beneficial, or is that date highly favored towards athletes and legacies like at other colleges.

demg, so your question is should you delay your application to RD when you may conceivably be able to submit better SATI and SATII's?

My advice, as long as your financial situation allows it, is to apply ED. I have no statistical backup here but I believe that Williams also uses ED to admit people who really want to go to Williams and that this policy benefits white, middleclass males. Now, you don't say that you are white and middle class so if that's not the case, then you may have another hook that you're not mentioning. Or, possibly an extracurricular that would be appealing?

Your Latin score is problematic as I would think that Williams would be interested in your interest in Classics. Maybe you could compensate by having a Latin teacher write a supplementary recommendation that mentions the aberration, especially if your grades and possibly AP score are considerably better than this result would indicate. When can you retake the Latin exam? Is it offered in another locale?

no hooks. just another white male whose parents have gone to college. unless skipping a grade is a hook, which i doubt.

the problem with the latin SAT II is that it is offered next in december, past the ed date.

so if there is only one more test date (october) before ed, should i retake the SATI or the SATIIs?

thanks.

I wouldn't sweat the Latin score. My son was just admitted to Williams with similar stats to yours and he got a 2 on the Latin AP. (Got 3 on Virgil this year. Yeah!) All his other AP's were 4's and 5's. Williams will probably take only highest SAT II's. S wanted to take Latin SAT II, but it got away from him. BTW: He received 3 National Latin Exam Medals and 3 Medusa Mythology awards.

His letter from Admissions stressed his interest in Classics (along with other things) even with his 2! He asked GC to mention that he was a serious Latin student and happened to get rec. from Latin teacher.

Adcoms know languages are tough.

Williams accepts November SATI and SATII scores. Check Williams admissions websites.
