Probobly the most basic question ever asked in the history of CC =)

How is class rank calculated? By Weighted or Unweighted GPA?
For example if person A had a 4.0 Unweighted and Weighted GPA would they be ahead of person B with 3.1 unweighted and 4.1 weighted?

=D

I searched on here and couldnt find it...

My school does it by weighted GPA, but it depends on the school

I think weighted.. but I wouldn't know because my school doesn't have weighted GPAs :(

yes, A would be ahead.

In my county, B would be ahead.

The reason why this is done is to prevent intelligent people from taking lighter course loads to get a higher rank.

However, I really believe your rank should be calculated by adding your GPA from each course. (So people taking more courses would have an advantage, and so people really wouldn't be hurt by taking a standard course in addition.)

You'll have to ask your school. Some schools use the weighted GPA system, while others use the unweighted.

My school uses only core classes and weighted GPA.

E.g. Person A got a C in Spanish, but got an A in AP Government
Person B got an A in Spanish and an A in regular government.

Person A is ahead.

Muchos Gracias. I didn't know it varied I thought there would be some sort of national standard.

Ill ask tomorrow .

Why would you use letters to represent people if you also have the same letters representing grades? :o

Depends on the school. Ours is weighted and anybody over with a 4.0 or higher is ranked #1.

My school does it by weights. Thank god!

my school does it by weighted gpa

My school uses the weighted. We honestly don't even know what our unweighted GPAs are, actually.
