So the UVA website doesn't seem to have a lot concerning newly admitted spring transfer students, it mostly only describes the fall transfer admitted students process. Does anybody know what spring transfers have to do once they accept the offer to attend UVA? Housing? Classes? Orientation?

Spring is interesting, and probably not discussed much on the website, since so few people are admitted for the spring.

As far as I know, housing is kind of limited to what is available, or who you can find that won’t need their dorm for the spring (study abroad, withdrawal, moving out, etc.).

Orientation is short and comes only a couple days before the start of the semester.

Registering for classes may be difficult since everyone else has already registered. However, again, due to the small number of people who begin during the spring, it may be possible to speak with professors about getting into a course w/ a Course Action form or through a professor’s waitlist (whether official through SIS or an unofficial personal one).

It’s difficult as Spring transfer because everything starts so soon. With fewer people there’s also less formalized support and you have to work double to meet people and get acclimated to the school. It’s difficult as a transfer to start with but more so with the Spring semester.

That’s not unusual though, a friend at W&M encountered the same issues.

As far as classes go… SIS makes it more difficult but email you teachers and tell them your a transfer, your on the waiting list, and you really need to get into their class.

Also, join clubs. It’s the best way to develop a group of friends.

do you know exactly what is the process for obtaining housing? and the same about classes, do I have to wait until orientation to meet with an advisor to discuss classes before I register or do I have to sign up for them on my own?

I believe that courses are selected at orientation since you would be meeting with someone (not necessarily your permanent advisor – you obtain one of those when you declare your major), which will be only a handful of days before the semester begins.

I would contact housing for those specifics. I would think that if you were accepted there would be information within the offer packet. I doubt you would have much time to make a decision or much of a choice where you would be placed.

I was a transfer, but I chose to live off-grounds so I never dealt with the housing office.
