Procrastination........help!

Recently I'm procrastinating way too much (CC is a big reason too!) Procrastinators out there, how do y'all reduce it? I'm pretty concerned to really start being punctual.......but u see it's NOT that easy! (I've tried to reward myself when successful w/ a deadline, but doesn't work, the reward itself make me pretty lazy! lol!) :p

I do all my homework during school. Also, if I do have homework (like projects or something), I do it all on one day, because it seems like less work that way.

One very helpful thing is to know your teachers. One of my teachers expects all his students to be morons, so I just write mediocre essays for him, and get perfect scores. Another teacher gives students who like her class better grades, so I just pretend like I'm interested in Goethe and she gives me an A+, even though I had a B+ pre-final. A third teacher doesn't care if you go to class, so I don't. Yeah... my teachers suck, lol.

(lol!) that was interesting! (I too try to modify myself w/ teachers)

hmm... i've never thought of it that way.. interesting

All you need is to gather up some willpower. That is - lock yourself in your room with only a project/homework assignment, be committed to it, and focus only on it. Try not to go to the bathroom unless you really have to. Try not to eat anything unless you really have to. Make sure that all distractions are gone (cell phone off, computer off). Then, just focus.

Eventually, you'll get into the habit of not procrastinating. As for the will power - ease it in.

I know the solution to procrastination. I'll tell you what it is tomorrow.

Oh, for me it helps to listen to music as well, particularly during stupid homework, like Humanities or busy-work, like biology. It also gives me ideas for writing... I wrote a paper about listening to music and got a perfect score (this was last year with a teacher that graded incredibly hard).

so, till now what i've seen: focus, focus and focus+finish stuffs in one setting! well, that was sorta helpful.
I'm curious to know what chaostheory comes up w/ tomorrow!

Chaos, if that was a joke then I got it. If it isn't, then what a concidence.
Anywho, I do what excelblue says and it works. Soft classical music playing while you're working can help too.

Chaos lol ;) umm I am a HUGE procrastinator. It is really really bad. Ummm I guess try to do as much as u can in class. Then @ home do the easy stuff first (normally i dont procrastinate on that since it takes a total of five min) Then I guess just sit down and plow through it. Try to say ok I am gonna be done with bio @ 4:45. And go as fast u can. I am not sure how well this will work, since I myself have tried it b4 and haven't succeeded... but hopefully it will work 4 u

yeah, you dont have to stop procrastination... as long as you get it done it doesnt matter when you get it done, and if youre naturally smart enough youll get better grades than most anyone lese anyway

Ehhhh... I'll tell you tomorrow. I promise.

crouton, that's exactly how I used to think (and still think) but see, I've stated that my procrastination is taking a curve adn turnin' into laziness! (now that's slacking!) and I am NOT naturally ** smart enough, I've to **work to show my smartness :(

Yeah, crouton that's not really how things go. I used to think like that too, but now I'm trying to write a paper nine days after it was due......

Work on homework the day it is assigned and don't get behind. Force yourself to do it; getting started is the hardest part.

There aren't really any tips on combating procrastination. It's up to you whether you want to do the work. I guess if it's really that hard, you could buy some asian parents. :D

ok, procrastination means that you wait till the last minute to get it done, not that youre handing in stuff late or plain not doing stuff

you guys arent procrastinating, you're just not doing anything at all

crouton, if u closely read my thread starting post, u'll see that I've said that I am procrastinating SO MUCH that it's turning out to be laziness, yeah, I'm an expert at procrastinating but yet afterall, I always turn my stuffs in successfully (I do have A+ avg in most subjects so that's pretty self-explanatory but recently it's sometimes going the other way) but now, I'm saying like my procrastination is hurting me a lot, since I've to work hard way too much and cram really a lot which I can easily avoid if I just become a bit more punctual. That's what I'm trying to say by saying that by procrastinating I'm actually becoming pretty lazy. I can feel the reason why we can't stop procrastination, we always have a confidence that we will be able to get done w/ that tast anyway,so why not starting sometimes else and do the 'more important' tasks right now!

Jman, I'm an Asian! (can't u tell it from my username?!) but amazingly, my parents hardly say me to do anything (since they have enough faith that I'll fulfill their goal anyway!)

ChaosTheory, what happened to ur promise?!

I promise, I'll do it tomorrow. Definitely. :)

Sometimes both my friend and I will be procrastinating. . . and hten we talk on AIM a little and agree to meet in 30 minutes or something and say what we got done. I suppose you could lie. . . but it feels good to tell someone you got something done.

I am a horrible procrastinator too, though!
