I'm sure we all do it... some worse than others. It's 10:30 on a Sunday night, and although I have been working on homework for the majority of the day, I am still not done. However, I am on here, and have been finding other distractions to prevent myself from finishing my AP Bio notes and studying for a Psych quiz...

How much do you procrastinate, and how do you try and prevent yourself from doing it?

I take procrastination to a new level.
It’s not like I leave my six-page essay that’s due Monday until Sunday night, and then I sit down at 8:00 and start working on it.
I leave my essay until Sunday night, plan to start working on it around 8:00, but get on Facebook. Then all of a sudden it’s 10, and I begin to panic. I get all overwhelmed and majorly stressed. But do I just get started on it? Nope, I text my friend and complain about how screwed I am and how much I hate myself for procrastinating. Then around 11:30, when the internet shuts off and I have less distractions, I start working, while continuing to text and do other unproductive things. I either stay up all night and get it done or decide that I’ll hand it in late and repeat the process the next night.

It happens every time I have a major assignment or test. I can’t stand it, but I don’t know how to stop doing it.

It got better when I went to boarding school last year and had a lights out time, because I needed to get work done by 10:30 (when I followed the rules), but then I stopped following the rules, and this year I don’t have lights out, so I’m back to normal.

@reginaphalange: I do the same thing! I have good intentions… but never seem to get anywhere. Actually, I gave up Facebook for Lent (part of my religion when you give up something for 40 days). I think it has helped, because I am not tempted to get on facebook and procrastinate there for 1-2 hours. However, now I found this site… oh no! hahah

ha, I really like collegeboss’ reasoning/rationale. Very logical and nice.

I personally have implemented utilizing, Gmail’s "Task List’, because you always get a tiny sense of euphoria when you check off something and delete it. Very pleasant indeed.

^ It’s not so pleasant when you never check anything off :(.
My procrastination is just about as serious as everyone else’s (clearly I’m on the board right now, when I’m BARELY done with my homework!)

I’ll try to associate Calculus with pleasure right now =___=.

Ubuntu has this really cool sticky note thing on my desktop that I use to create lists of stuff I should do but don’t want to. Facebook covers the stickies.

I think that the main component that I need to emphasize is formulating an alternative perspective. Study Hacks has been beneficial for me. What’s unfortunate is that I don’t possess deadlines though.

yeah… procrastination. i’ve been a bit better about it this semester and am actually getting more sleep, but tonight’s going to be a late night… its rough
