I have been searching around for all kinds of careers of different disciplines, and product management really caught my attention much moreso than any others. If i had my pick, I would be the product manager for consumer electronics. I've been doing alot of research on it and it seems like most companies want their candidates to have a technology degree (engineering, computer science, mis) along with an MBA. Are any of you aware of the undergraduate degrees these large consumer electronics companies are looking for? I dont think i would mind mis and that seems logical as it has technology and business.

Well, I don't know about consumer electronics, but big consumer staples companies, like Proctor and Gamble, have product managers. I hear it's a fun, challenging job.

I'd suggest getting a degree in marketing.

Would product and brand management be the same thing?

I know a marketing director for an electrical connector company and he has an EE. I would, however, agree with UCB and would think marketing would be an adequate major if you weren't to persue the engineering route.

I think you will need to do more research about career tracks at the companies in which you are interested. Project managers often have engineering degrees and often bring product concepts through design & engineering. Product managers hold a similar position but (in general) are a little less technical and more focused on marketing. Brand managers are focused on marketing and image. These descriptions are all generalities and will vary by company. Product & brand managers often hold MBAs in marketing.
