I just wanted to ask if it is really important to get your professional engineer's license (PE). I know all about it, all the details. I just wanted to ask if it was really useful, or if any of you were planning on becoming a professional engineer. How will it benefit you, if you want to get it, or why don't you want it, if you don't want to get it?

By the way, I'm doing ECE and civil, and planning to take the PE for both in order to start up an engineering firm.

Any comments would be appreciated.

You are doing ECE and Civil as a double major? Wow, that's nuts. Anyways, a P.E. is critical if you are a Civil engineer. Most of the work Civils do has some connection to governments and they will always require a P.E. Other than Civil Engineering, it's not likely to be important or needed. Maybe in some situations, but they are out of the ordinary.

Most companies that will contract with you too do structural/civil design will need you too sign off as a PE with your stamp. Best way too answer your question is referring you too a website. www.eng-tips.com THere are alot of pe's there from almost every state. There are many posts that have answered your question and many more you might have.
Good luck with the double major
