Hi CC! I'm a long-time lurker, first time poster.

I have a question about ethics, as you can probably tell from the title. I have spent weeks on my essay, and have what I consider to be a pretty good, near close to final draft. I've had my friend look at it as well.

However, I was considering sending into a website like essay edge for one final read through. I mean, these people are the experts, aren't they? If they completely change my essay, obviously, I'm not going to accept any of their suggestions. If they have a good comment or two on conceptual things, would that be okay to accept? I would never use their own words or edits verbatim-- just suggestions on if the essay was powerful enough, flow, tone, content, etc. I would make sure the essay was still all me, not some random editor's words.

I would like to have someone who doesn't know me read it because while my friend knows who I am very, very well. If my type of humor in the essay is appealing to her, it might come off differently for someone who hasn't known me for five years. Am I making sense?

get opinions from your fellow CCers? :) i wouldn't mind helping you read it. email it to me- tyac.sg@gmail.com

If you ever need help editing, just ask, I (and others) are more than happy to help you.

I think if you're set on it, and cost isn't an issue, it wouldn't be morally outrageous, since you're so bent on keeping it your own writing. This is just my take, but it's when it stops being your essay that it starts being wrong, and the further from "you" you get it stops being an effective essay, too.

Ultimately, I wouldn't, but that's because there's cheaper and quicker alternatives than a pay site, not because it's wrong.

Thanks for the replies, guys! I really appreciate it.

I'll talk to my parents. They are averse to having people I don't really know read it, which is why I haven't posted it here on CC. Although, if you think about it, sites like essay edge are people I don't know, they just have a company behind it.

I'll see how it goes with the parents. Once again, thanks for your replies!
