My son has Autism, SPD, &PTSD due to teacher and student bullying.
He was taking the French Final and he sets weird (has set this way all year). He sets with one leg twisted out. She stopped the final singled him out and informed him to stop cheating and sit right. He said he was, she proceeded down the isle to him and shoves his leg under the desk.
This set off his PTSD and he shut down during the final. He still has not received a grade but she did let him finish the test. He is distraught over this and has dropped French 2.
One how can a teacher accuse someone of cheating when the issue is his leg was sticking out in the isle?
Two how is it acceptable for a teacher to touch a student, let alone one that has SPD?
What should we do.
Is this in high school or college? How old is your son?
If this is in high school you need to talk to the teacher first and if you are not satisfied go to your administration (should have done so before dropping the class but there is still time). His teacher should have been aware of his I.E.P. Does he have any testing accommodations? Were they being met? If this is high school you will have an annual review soon and should ask for seating accommodations going forward (such as ample seating space away from other students so it won’t appear he is cheating).
If this is college your son should speak to the office of learning disabilities so they can advise him.
I always look at both sides of a situation - are you 100% certain that your son was not cheating in any way? As a parent I never say never. His leg may have been in the aisle but it sounds as if the eyes may have been the concern. You need to hear the teacher’s side of this to evaluate.
Good luck.
