Professor didn't get grade in on time

Can you believe that one of my son's professors didn't get the classes grades in on time? Now there is an NG for "no grade" on his transcript for last semster. It wouldn't bother me so much except that his transcript went out to another school for consideration to transfer and a grade is missing.

My concern is that the school will think something is wrong and it will also hold up their decision.

The professor sent an email out to the students that the grade will be processed at some point when she gets it in, but it still is missing and it's been about a week since the grades were posted. ugh

Some profs are very slow getting grades in. Write to the other school to let it know that the grade is pending and that a corrected transcript will be sent as soon as the grade has been recorded.

Maybe it would be helpful to forward that email to the school or schools to which the transcript has been sent–informationally, not judgmentally (no disparaging or even apologetic comment, just as an fyi to the admission depts).

Most likely, the potential transfer schools will not really be looking at those transcripts or evaluating the transfer app for quite a while (if it is for a Fall 2008 transfer). So there should be plenty of time for an updated transcript and the only loss would be the extra costs of ordering/sending a new transcript.

If the application is for sooner transfer or has an earlier than typical deadline (eg, November 07 or January 08; instead of the more typical March 08), then I think forwarding the informational email is a good idea, along with sending a corrected transcript when available.

A stress you don’t need, to be sure; but probably will pass quickly.

I’m sure it happens all the time. Don’t worry about it.

An e-mail from your son to the professor would also be appropriate.

Many students do not care if their grades show up late but because your son is considering a transfer, he is an exception. I think it would be a good idea for this professor to know that your son needs his grade reported as soon as possible.

It could be something like “When I received my grades, I noticed that the grade for [name and number of course] was missing. I am applying for transfer to another university, and my transcript has already gone to that university with the grade missing. I would like to send out a corrected transcript as soon as possible. Do you know when my actual grade for [name and number of course] will be reported?”

The student may also want to contact the Registrar of his current school re this, as they may contact the prof to get the grade quickly and/or automatically send a revised transcript to the transfer app schools.
