So at the end of the semester, my professor and I discussed my performance in the course, where I could improve, how she graded, etc. She said based off my exams and performance in the course my grade for the course would be an A-. However, a week later I see my transcript grades online and my grade for the course was only a B-.

I emailed and tried to go to her office several times over the past 3 months to why the grade has changed from what we originally discussed but she has been avoiding me/not responding. Finally, she emailed me back after weeks of ignoring me saying "I will not change your grade." That was it. I asked her why he felt a B- was now better and have not received any response.

I feel like this is unfair since originally she felt my performance was an A- and then gave me a B- instead. I think the reason she does not want to change the grade to the correct one is because she is too busy/lazy to go through the whole process and doesn't care about taking the time to just correct one student's grade but to me it is important. Why should I have to keep a grade that was not initially intended for me?

What should I do? I think she is done with it and won't do anything else. Should I go to her superiors? Just let it end?

That doesn’t seen right. Grades are determined by attendance/how well you do on quizzes/tests/participation. The instructor have to have a reason for the B-. I would investigate. It can’t hurt, and can change your GPA.

Calculate what grade you should receive based on the course syllabus (grade scale and weighting) and your marks in every single assignment/test. If your calculations give you anything higher than a B- then you can appeal… check your university calendar for details on how to do this.

Go to the department head. That’s your redress for issues with a professor. My daughter had a professor that was really bad on grading and returning assignments. She and another student made their cases to the department head and their grades were adjusted. I don’t think that the remainder of the class had their grades adjusted.

I agree with the others. Seek out the department head or even the dean. Teachers aren’t perfect by any means and it sounds like you got cheated out of the proper grade. Good luck friend.

So I actually heard back from her and she said that she was only considering giving me an A- and decided that a B- was more reflective of how I did.

Sounds like you were grade shopping and she quoted you the wrong price. Besides if the semester was over then all you would need is the score on your final exam to know whether it was a B- or A-. The Prof’s predication was nothing but a good faith attempt to help. Let it go.

I don’t understand how a reflection of how you did can be subjective. It should be based off of some kind of point system or percentages for things like participation, exams, quizzes ect…which you should know after the semester is over.
