professor giving wrong grade or losing paper?

i'm in a bit of a nightmare right now as i just got a C in my easy upper div history class. im pretty sure this is a mistake because: I've only gotten As in my past history classes, the class was very easy and material i know well, I got an A- on the earlier paper, i met with the professor during office hours and approved my thesis,a nd the professor even said herself she rarely gives out Cs unless its terrible work.

i know my final paper was very good (At the least, a B+ range) and nowhere near a C, especially in an easier class.

i've emailed the professor, are there any other steps i can take? and has something like thsi ever happened before to people?

thanks.

professor responded instantly and apologized saying she didn't take into account my earlier paper that got an A-. so that should bump it to a B-. still, that's far lower than what i usually get and the quality of my work didn't go down (at least to my knowledge), so i asked if i really got a C on the final paper

nevermind this whole thread. there ended up being an error and i really have an A (and was lucky enough to have a professor who actually cared to respond asap and check it). this is a bit embarassing so perhaps the mod can delete it :)

That's great to know namaste - good for you for being on top of your work and I applaud the professor for making the necessary change.

damn that must have been stressful namaste..but im glad you got the grade you rightfully deserve :)

obv brag post.

Do professors generally give you back tests and papers after they are done so you have have the grade as a reference? If they don't, then aren't you kind of screwed because you have no proof of what you earned?

Tests and papers yes. For the final exam, it depends on the professor. Some might mass-email the class: "you can pick up your exams if you want to on blahblahblah [date] blahblahblah or we're just going to shred/recycle them."

it's very scary. ucla is a huge school and mistakes are made. i was fortunate enough to have a professor who was not only nice about it but FAST. someone else told me his professor refused to change a wrong grade!

oh and not a brag post in the slightest. more like an almost panic

i'm only teasing, but yeah glad it worked out for you.

Grats! Glad you got it resolved.

i cant even bare to look at myucla right now since its still a C...so scary, must give a few days to get updated... heahhahah

Right... I have a "N3" attached to one of my grades as an addendum meaning that the grade had been changed from a NR to my current grade. Yes mistakes... yes............ **** you.

One of my grades still says NR. I need to email my prof :(

Session C? Yeah it was a month after Session A ended... which is why I still remember it... and which is why I still have nightmares about it... which is why -

I still post here.

[/anaphora]

hey was this history course one of coreys namaste.

Is there anything you can do if you can prove that your grade was wrong, but the prof. refuses to change it? I'd imagine you'd have to go talk with the people higher up. LOL maybe seek legal action.

sandkicks: yes

mrmoo: if that happens you'd have to take it to the department, which is probably hellish. not saying it can't be done but you gotta be really persistent

is it THAT bad???

that SUCKS!!! first of all, i probably cant get an A, and when i somehow DO get an A...the prof get it wrong!!!!

It's not that horrible, haterofhaters...

Strive for A's. Do well. If something goes wrong, fight until you get that A.
