Professor lost the essay portion of my final exam!

So I checked my final grades the other day and found that in my journalism class my professor lost the essay portion of my final exam! We took a scantron worth 50% and 2 essays worth 50% of the final exam grade. She graded the scantron and I got a high B, but my final exam score is a 42% with the 0% of the essays and it is worth 35% of my final grade! So now I have a big fat C on my transcript. I already emailed her back yesterday, but haven't got a reply. I know for sure I turned it in because I took the final early with her other journalism class because she said we could. I put my essay in the other classes pile by mistake and she corrected me saying "no, you want to put your essays in this pile." So I definitely turned it in! I'm just scared it will turn into a sitution of her word against mine. I've done all of my work and had an A before this, so its not like im a slacker or someone trying to get away with something. Anyone had this situation?

Hopefully your professor will email you back.

I’ve never been in a situation like this, but at my school you can file a grievance report (in the student services office), if the teacher won’t work with you.

Yes wait for a few days, maybe e-mail her again, than contact the head of the dept, they should be able to help you out. My english prof made a mistake on my grade, I emailed her twice, than contacted the head of the dept and they helped me.

Professors with large classes and/or heavy teaching loads have a lot of paper to be moving at finals. It is easy for something to get in the wrong pile, or entered wrong. Just approach her is a calm, reasonable manner, and I am confident it will work out for the best.

The fundamental Q is why would you not have completed the scantron part of the exam, but not do the essays. So be chill and she will work with you.

I would reach out to the prof again, if it doesn’t lead anywhere the dept head or dean can def help you out.

I would be really ****ed if I was in your shoes, but try not to get too worked up. It sounds like you’re a good student so they’ll recognize that and do what they need to do.

Actually, I take that back.
I actually have been in a similar situation.

Not quite the extreme, but I was missing points that lowered my letter grade.
Talked to the ta, and at the ta’s suggestion, the prof changed the grade.

Tell her that you’ll file a lawsuit against her if she doesn’t work with you.

Ummm I think that’s a bit radical…haha

I’m sure you’ll be alright.

She probably will work something out with you that will handle things in a fair way. You may not have heard from her yet because it’s summer, and she may not be working. Lots of professors travel during the summer and are off line.

Keep copies of your test and of the e-mails. You may end up having to talk to her in person when the semester resumes. Be courteous and talk in a way that indicates you think she’s a fair, reasonable person who thinks the same as you.

Just an update guys: She did respond to me after a week and let me submit the essays (thankfully I had them saved) to her via email. She said the grade would change in about a week. Thanks for the replies everyone!
