Professor Recommendation Question

Hey all. I am quite close with a professor from my freshman year whom I did not see this past semester due to her research endeavors. Hence I want to ask her for a recommendation but should I email her to ask for permission or wait until school starts to go in person to do so? I am afraid that since one of the deadlines is 2/15 that a little more than three weeks is not ample time or respectful enough. Any advice is appreciated!

I don't know when your school starts but I would say give her an email so that she can maybe start working on it during the break. It would probably be a bad idea to wait, she might even turn it down if she doesn't have enough time...

School starts for me next Monday the 14th. The first deadline is 2/15. Anybody else?

I would give no less than one month. Email her and then go in person to talk about the letter when school starts.

Either way is fine. But I don't see how you can lose by emailing to say that you plan to visit her as soon as school re-opens, but you thought it might be helpful to let her know of your request as early as possible, hence the email.

If you feel uncomfortable about the email, waiting til you get there is fine, fine, fine. Even if the app deadline is 2/15, it usually doesn't matter if the rec arrives with a slight lag.

Don't know where you're applying, but many schools don't really look at the transfer apps until they're finished with freshman admit madness at the end of March.

Thanks to everybody for their responses. Andale, I know that colleges usually won't look at transfer apps until much later but what I was worried about was that one school in particular has a deadline of February 15th hence the thread. But I emailed the professor to let her know in advance.
