Professor recommendations

My question is . . how important is professor recommendations to transfer student compared to high school teacher recommendations. . because it is understood that college professors would have known the student for only a year or so where as HS teachers would have known the student for something like 3 years? So which would weigh more?

I am an international applicant and had applied previously as a freshman but due to some unfortunate circumstances could not go the US. . Now I am applying as a transfer. My HS recos and stats are not so good but my professor recommendations and current college transcripts are great. So which would weigh more?

It depends on whether you’re applying to enter as a sophomore or as a junior transfer.

soph: HS>college
jr: college>HS

I didn’t get you . . what I meant by transfer was …i am currently in 3rd semester mechanical engineering and would continue the rest in someplace like Drexel or Wash U or whichever gives good aid

If you’re in your 3rd semester, you would transfer in as a Junior. In that case, your College grades and stats would be considered more relevant than your HS grades and stats.

thanks for the replies. . well i have one more question…does taking up a really challenging project or some research activity in your first year of college itself with very renowned professors help you a lot and separate you from rest of the candidates?

… yeah. Of course it does =)
