Professors at BU

For anybody who goes to BU, went to BU, or knows anything about BU, what do you know about the professors there? For me, the best (and easiest) way to learn isn’t from a person teaching you the standards of a course, or the text of a book, but from personal experience and their own world view.

My favorite teacher ever is my history teacher who I’ve had for the past two years. She and I disagree on SO many things, but I’ve learned more about the world both in history and in the modern world from having personal discussions with her, not as much from the textbook. That’s really what I’m looking for in college professors. I realize that, due to the multitude of students possibly in their classes, personal time isn’t as readily available, but, I think if the professor is good enough, he/she will either make personal time or be able to teach in that personal way to a room full of hundreds regardless.

Anyway, any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

lol the only problem with this thread is that there are hundreds of professors at bu and multiple ones for many subjects. go to ratemyprofessors.com and you can get an idea from there. just like any high school or college, some will change your life, others you’ll wish you’d never met.

College is vastly different and you’ll find much material is really better suited for lecture. An entertaining, informative lecturer is a great college teacher.

All profs have office hours. That’s required. They must be there and must meet with any student who shows. Not many kids take advantage of that but if you do you get a better experience and loads of advice.
