How UCB students get professors attention for recs and internships?

How about asking them in-person?

ummmmmm…here’s my shot: go to office hours? email?

stroke their ego. you figure out how on your own…

bring a lighter and start a slow wave during lecture.

for safety reasons, I’d just you know…use your mouth.

Okay, I was thinking of transferring from a CCC to a UC.

Though I’m not sure what you mean by getting professor’s attention for internships…

Professors of public universities are too unwitting towards students. Such is why one should attend a private institution rather than a public one.

^^ not true, i have had so much attention from my profs at berkeley. you just need to go to their office hours and take the initiative to build the relationship

^^ agree. long timers here are kind of puzzled by the thread and replying with humor because it is so obvious here that you have virtually unlimited access to the professors, far more than you likely will ever need or could use. Truly, they sometimes almost whine during lectures that people are not visiting during their office hours.

I guess it is one of those persistent myths or a situation that is seemingly logical for a state university with a huge student population that people are going to assume it until they see for themselves.

You can legitimately ding Cal for the effects of the big environment, as in lack of hand-holding or support teams, dealing with often frustrating bureaucracy, not being totally known to every student and professor like would happen at an intimate private school, but lack of access to professors is NOT one of the downsides of this university.

+1

even some of my more popular professors whine about this sometimes. it’s really fun just going to them and chatting, many of them are really cool people. (best time to chat with profs is obviously at times VERY far away from midterms/finals/project due dates)

you can be a brown noser and ask daily multiple questions during lecture that tries to showcase your mastery and understanding of the material while at the same time allow the professor to showcase theirs as well so you can maximize your participation points. Do note, I hate people who do this and sometimes randomly go up to them to hand them a tissue to wipe the ***** off of their faces
