Proficiency and "First language" on common app?

This is a little premature, but just wondering . . .

What does it mean on the common app by first language and proficient?

I obviously speak English well.

Language A - My family speaks this language at home, I learned it along with English as a child, I can speak/explain/translate pretty well in this language, but I haven't had that many formal classes and although I can read and write it, I'm not that good. I could speak in an interview or explain my work in this language.
Also, if you looked at me or saw my last name, it would not be surprising that I know Language A.

Language B - I have learned this language for 7 years in school. I can speak, understand, translate, and write pretty well, but if someone is speaking fast I will have difficulty. It's a common language. When I went to a foreign country that speaks this language I communicated well, but did not stay that long.

Which is proficient - Language A, B, both, or none?
Which one is my first language - English or Language A? I learned both pretty much simultaneously.

Thanks in advance!

I know it’s long, but it’s not that long!

Your first language would be English/Language A. You can have two first languages.

You’re proficient in Language B.

Honestly, they’re mostly curious, and it matters most for international students. They really don’t care what languages you speak.
