Profile Evaluation - PhD in Stats/Math Finance in UK

Hi all,

If you know something about PhD programs in the UK, please provide some comments.

Undergrad: Top Canadian University
Major: History then to Math
Undergrad GPA: Overall: 3.73/4.00 (which includes a lot of history courses with bad marks). Core GPA (only Math + Stats): 3.82/4.00.

Undergrad Courses: Calc I & II (A-, A) Linear Alg (A-), Probability I & II (B, A-), Statistics I (A), Diff Eq (A-), Math Stats (A+), Real (A-), PDE (A+), Applied Stats (A+), Stochastic Processes (A-), Time Series (A-), Computational Stats (A+), Stats Inference (A), Grad level Applied Stats (A), Math Finance (A+ & A+), Reading Course in Math (A+), Stats Consulting (A+), Game Theory (A), Theoretical Stats (A+)

Grad: Same University (just started in Sept)
Courses: The usual stuff, probability, math stats, stochastic analysis etc. No marks yet.

Research: worked with 3 professors (1 math finance, 2 theoretical statistics), 1 paper will be submitted soon, 1 in progress. Won research scholarships (1 national + 1 university) for RA work.

LOR: Solid but probably not spectacular. 1 from RA work, 2 from professors who knew me really well.

Questions:
- I am looking at Math Finance/Stats programs in the UK, which includes, Oxbridge, LSE, UCL and Imperial. If anyone knows something about these schools, please evaluate my chances

-Some schools will look at your profile before you make a formal application. LSE told me I should apply, whereas Cambridge told me don't bother (in their email, they said "it seems that your skills and experience are not well matched to what we are able to supervise at PhD level, so I have to advise you to look into alternative possibilities."). My research interests did not match anyone there (but of course I can change my interests if that will get me in). I want to know if that's a way of saying you are below our admission standards so you should look for other schools, or if that's saying your interests does not match what we supervise here.

-What is the likelihood for non EU students to get funding from UK schools (I am a Canadian citizen).

Thanks.
