So I did the CSS Profile carefully, proofread it and all, but still made a mistake. I under-reported the amount of federal taxes we paid in 2006 by more than $7000. Would this matter enough for me to correct it?

You can correct it on the FAFSA and again when you send your 1040s & w-2s in to the school for confirmation.
I don't know of any way to correct the PROFILE other than to print it out- correct it and send it to the schools seperately

I think just as long as you have the numbers correct elsewhere you don't need to correct PROFILE

You can also call the College Board number that's set up for Profile questions. By pressing 0, you can get a real, live person on the line (a rare thing these days!).

By all means report that $7K as taxes paid. It will make a substantial difference (or at least what I consider a substantial difference) in the aid package for the kids of most wage-earners.
