Program acceptance difficulty.

Hello all, not sure if I’m posting in the right area.
I wanted to ask, how difficult is the selection process for design school? Notably, SCULB and SFSU, etc etc. I’m looking mainly in the California region.
I know the “acceptance” ratings are in the 68-70% range.

I’m looking for a more focused selection, depending on the major, in my case, product design.

What exactly do the schools want to see in a portfolio from a transferring student (2 year CC).
As it stands right now, my GPA is floating at around a 2.35, with about 4 classes to go (I’m taking 2-3 more over the summer, so I have enough time to apply in the late summer/fall), I’m projecting a final GPA of 2.6.
I know most schools, outside of SFSU want a statement of intent(or some kind of written statement), which should allow me to explain my paltry GPA, and I feel my string of straight A’s recently will help.
But my overall concern is…What do they want, portfolio wise? Do they expect perfect drawings? or very good 3D renderings? Do they want students who create a lot of consumer electronics? Or someone who has a dominantly furniture/kitchen appliance portfolio?

As it stands now, my portfolio consists of moderately well sketches, which, while they aren’t great from a technical standpoint (super detailed and great marker use), they get the idea across in a clear manner, at least that’s how I feel. I have two working models, a vase that I made out of clay, and a chandelier I put together with the help of a friend. and a few CAD renderings. My drawings are seldom done “free-hand”, except when doing concepts; and they don’t look half as good as other peoples work , and I like to use 2/3 point perspective when drawing, which is likely attributed to my interest in engineering (I took a drafting class and some other engineering courses).
My portfolio, I feel, is more focused, rather than “let me draw everything”, and I feel that’s due in part to my age (26, turning 27 when I apply…I was a very late bloomer), and I know what I want to do. My portfolio is currently heavy on the furniture design and kitchen appliances (toasters, refrigerator etc etc), and some home entertainment. I haven’t even considered making a phone, which IMO is boring as all hell, or a tablet/laptop…There is only so much you can do with a rectangle.

Any help from faculty and current graduate students would be really beneficial.

Maybe links that show the portfolio of applying transfer students, so I know what I’m up against…I’m told my work looks “professional” but that’s from friends and family…Of course they’re going to say it looks great.
