Hi. I need help with something. I enrolled 1.5 years ago in a associate program and few months after I received a letter saying the program is being cancelled. The class I was more interested in got cancelled and there was only 1 teacher for the whole program and we didn’t learn much since we had to figure pretty much everythung on our own. Now I have only a technical certificate since I didn’t want to keep paying for these classes because I wasn’t learning anything useful and I can’t even look for a job beacuse I feel like I don’t know anything really. I still feel terrible and disappointed about the whole situation because I feel I just waste time on something that won’t really help me get a job and owe money which I need to start paying soon. Is there anything I can do about this?
What major were you in? Can you switch to a different major and get an associate’s degree?
Digital media. I don’t know if I can switch I wanted to do web development originally but that’s the class that got cancelled.
I think your options will depend on what you want to do with a digital media degree. Do you want to work in the computer industry? If computer science is more involved than you want you may be able to change your major to some sort of communications degree. Have you spoken to your academic advisor? They should be able to explain your options.
What state are you in? Is that the only community college near you? Since you started in a degree program it seems like some of your courses would have been gen eds. They should transfer to another degree at your school or to a degree program at another school.
What are your long range plans? Are you planning to transfer to a 4-year school? If you took the federal student loans then they come due 6 months after you quit taking classes, but payment is suspended while you’re in school. Talk to your advisor and see if there’s a major you can switch to so you can get your associate’s degree. If there are any other schools within commuting distance check those too.
