I’m not planning on taking intro to programming since it’s not required for my major, aerospace engineering. Any current students know what programming languages I should learn on my own this summer before I start at UIUC? I know I should learn Matlab and basic Microsoft Office, but which OOP language is used the most for aerospace engineering?
Fortran!
just kidding- guessing Python is most common, and maybe Java or C++ as well, but @literallymarx will be able to provide better information.
And… which browser should I use, Nexus? Or AOL?
Mosaic?
AE tends to be a more difficult field of engineering to get your foot in the door than other programs. I would suggest minoring in IT or CS and getting some proficiency in a mainstream language like C#, Java, or SQL. It could serve as a good insurance policy to get you working just in case the job doesn’t come right away.
I’m ahead on AP classes and have the opportunity to take only four classes per semester, so I have more time for technical projects and extracurricular teams (and maybe research). These things will boost my job prospects, especially at SpaceX, my target. I don’t want to minor because that will add another class to several semesters. I think I will learn Python and Matlab before freshman yea r and acquire some more skills during college.
Uh good question. Python is probably a good bet. I know CS101 (Intro to CS for Science and Engineering) teaches Python.
Thanks, best answer yet.
