I want to do something at a college campus this summer, but I also want it to be productive. I went to Explo 2.5 years ago at Wellesley. It was fun, but it wasn't really what I was looking for. I'd want to do something involving leadership, some academics, maybe a little career oriented? My parents probably aren't willing to pay $5,000 for a program, so something not too expensive would be nice also.

And I live around D.C, if that makes a difference.

DEFINITELY look at Economics for Leaders. It’s “highly competitive” but not impossible to get into. Programs in 2011 were held at Cornell, Babson, UCLA, William and Mary, Vanderbilt, etc. It’s one week long, and in the mornings you have economic classes with a teacher from the Foundation of Teaching Economics. In the afternoons, it’s all about leadership and team building. [Foundation for Teaching Economics](http://www.fte.org), go check it out!
Tuition never reached over $1,000 for last years program, they’re funded by FTE. Good luck!

Oh, wow sorry. I’m really tired and misread you. Rising junior… hmm. Look at HOBY (Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership) for a weekend seminar and the chance to go to a week long session in Chicago over the summer. That costs around $1,500. You must attend the weekend seminar ([Hugh O?Brian Youth Leadership | HOBY | Home](http://www.hoby.org)) and you have to be the representative from your HS. Act fast, though, because registration for states is closing soon.
Keep Boys’ or Girls’ State in mind for your summer, though! And for next summer, EFL :)

I posted on a separate thread, and it sounds like you are a year away, but check out the St. Albans School of Public Service in DC (unless you really want to get away from DC). Its for rising seniors tho

Check out Youth Policy Summit programs. Youth Policy Summit YPS is a week-long academic leadership program for rising high school juniors and seniors. In 2012, you can choose from 5 programs on different college campuses across the country. All programs cost between $600-$950, and scholarships are available for low-income students.

At YPS you will learn about a critical public policy issue (for example energy, water resources, urban sustainability) and come up with your own solutions to solve these tough problems. Along the way you will meet 40 students from across the country, have a lot of fun, and interact with business, government and nonprofit leaders. Visit the website to learn more!
