Does anyone know of any summer programs where current high school seniors can apply? The program doesn't have to be specifically for rising college freshmen, just one where such students can participate. I'm looking for something to do during the summer before college. Any and all suggestions are welcome.

Spend time with your family.

Work and earn some money – you will be happy to have it if you want to take an unpaid internship later, do some extra traveling if you study abroad, etc.

Bump

You could do some volunteering, learn a new skill, write a book. A lot of camps will take rising college freshmen; I just can’t think of them right now…

I actually don’t think a lot of camps DO take college freshman. “Camps” are meant for high school students, partly to try out various activities to consider college majors. My kids did “camps” until they were seniors, then worked to earn money for college once they were out of high school. Which makes a lot of sense, as many places won’t hire until you are 18.

If you are interested in medicine, the Lillehei summer scholars program (heart institute) takes high school & college students, so they would likely consider a high school senior. Also, the BreakThrough Collaborative in some cities hires high school senior for (paid) internships if there is one in your city.

You could volunteer, start your own volunteer organization, conduct independent research or try to get a research internship.

If you’re into languages, Middlebury Language Schools accept rising college freshmen. There’s tuition, but you can apply for financial aid.
