Right now, I'm looking to have a mix of programs that require in person auditions (whether they be at Unifieds or on campus) versus programs that allow video auditions. I just don't have the time or money to visit multiple campuses across the country during my senior year. (I understand that video auditions hinder the chance of acceptance).

I haven't been able to find a list of programs that allow video auditions, so which are they?

James Madison BA MT will accept video auditions. An on campus audition is certainly preferred, and encouraged. However, we do review all video submissions from prospective students who cannot make it to an on campus audition because of significant distance, weather, or other insurmountable issues. We have occasionally accepted students from video submissions. Contact theatredance@JMU.edu to be sent the video submission requirements. PM or email me if you have any questions.

Check the websites for schools that interest you. If you do not find the information on the website, contact the schools directly.

Tulane’s application doesn’t require an audition but will accept either a live or video audition as a supplement. From their website: “The Musical Theatre major is strictly a BFA, admission to which is based on an audition that takes place during sophomore year; any audition taking place during the application process is solely a way for the student to strengthen his or her application, make contact with faculty and/or students, and, if intended to major, qualify to be considered for a Musicianship Award.”

Wagner College, near NYC, accepts video audition, and my daughter was accepted from one 2 years ago (chose to go elsewhere, but liked the program).

Rider accepts video auditions. Give it a shot! Look on their website for the how-to. Or call if you don’t see it on the website. There is an asterisk next to the audition dates that says you can send in a video if you can’t audition on campus or at one of the regional auditions.
