programs volunteering abroad

I'm posting on the parents forum hoping to find people who have experience volunteering abroad. My daughter is interested is in doing a summer volunteer program in a Spanish speaking country. She'll be 17 and can communicate reasonably well in Spanish. She'd prefer a homestay program. She saw IFRE Volunteer Abroad, (IFRE) Volunteering Abroad, $80/Week | IFRE Volunteers Abroad but I'm having a hard time figuring out whether or not it's a good program. If anyone has any knowledge about IFRE, that would be great. Any thoughts on other volunteer programs for a seventeen year old would also be appreciated.

Thank you!

I know of International Student Volunteers and Campus Crusade for Christ has Summer Projects all around the world. I think they cost quite a bit of money though.

Thanks but she is not interested in a religious organization. Any other ideas? Alternatively, any ideas of how to determine if a program is what it says it is?

I would ask in the Summer programs forum -

If you google it, you come up with lots of links but I don’t know what organizations are reputable.

take a look at rusticpathways

Thanks momofboston.

I did find two pages that were helpful and others considering volunteering abroad might be interested in them.
