Programs with scholarships/financial aid.

I really want to go to a summer prorgam this summer and I want to study French, Arabic, Speech & Debate, and International Relations. I will be entering the ninth grade this summer, and I need your help finding some programs that offer the courses I'm interested in and offer financial aid.

My first choice as of now is Andover Summer Session. It offers financial aid, but I don't know if it will be enough, and I'd like to study Speech and Debate and French here. Five weeks long, tuition is approximately $6,000.

Another program I'm interested in is The Summer School and Institut Le Rosey in Rolle, Switzerland. It offers French and it would pretty much be in an immersion environment. This program does not offer any type of financial aid, so I would need to figure out some way to pay for it? Any ideas? Three weeks, approximately $5,500 + airfare.

Both of those sound great for your situation.

Getting full financial is really tough, especially if your family's financial situation is not that of which they can't afford to send you but that they just don't want to spend all that money.

Truth is coming out of 8th grade there are very few options of programs. Opportunities in things such as speech and debate will open up a lot more to you next summer especially if you join speech through your school.

Best advice is have fun this summer. You don't need to do some pricey summer program. In the end it really shows that your parents have deep pockets. Some over structured summer trip to a foreign country albeit a "learning" experience, isn't the end all be all of plans. I doubt your looking as far ahead as college, but if you are, if your looking for resume material or essay fodder writing about overseas travels is so cliche. Colleges are getting tired of the "When in Rome" essays.

Apply to things that INTEREST you. Don't worry about the costs now. That should never be something to stops you from applying or attending something that genuinely interests you. Once you get in you can worry about things like financing. I know that there are best and worst case scenarios but you can always find ways to fund your endeavors.

Good Luck!

just an idea....usually in most towns, there are local scholarships...maybe you can write them a letter or something, stating your problem...if they are 'nice' enough, they may even help you out...you never know

I think I'm gonna scratch out the Le Rosey program because for one, the tuition, airfare, and spending money is just too expensive.

Andover Summer Session seems great, and they have financial aid. If I'd go, I'd probably major in Speech and Debate and minor in International Relations or French.

Do you guys know of any fundraising idea's for me to possibly get around three to four thousand dollars? I should probably start now if I want to earn that much.

Go for the Andover one.

Andover is a great place, both parents attended, and I go up there every summer (un related to the program) but good stuff.

GOOD LUCK!!!

Thanks .

Bumppppppppppppp
