What would I have to major in to become a project manager?

You would major in whatever field you want to manage projects in.

The two project managers I know (one in engineering, one in consulting) both started at entry-level positions in their fields, and then worked their way up into positions with more responsibility. The engineer also went back to school for an MBA at some point. I think it’s important to work your way up so that you know what’s involved in each step in the process you are managing.

A close relative of mine is a project manager for JPMorgan. He has his bachelor’s in computer science; he was in that field for a few years. Then he got his MBA and has been in consulting and project management since.

All the project managers I know got the job after working some other job in the area they ended up managing. It’s not really an entry-level kind of job. It’s the kind one has to work toward. A masters definitely is a plus, too.
