Project Runway is Back

Anyone watch tonight?

I did!

Based strictly on the final runway, I was surprised by the winner. I didn’t think the winner had the best show, though overall I think she has the best potential for success.

I found Tommy Hilfiger very annoying.

I thought tommy H was focused on what would sell, like a print would only work one season, someone would only buy one macrame dress. Or, so and so had a niche audience. I don’t think that matters in a runway. I wonder what Christian would have said.

My GF’s daughter wore a macrame dress to her wedding shower. She looked great

Absolutely - but I also think that a print can slowly morph so that you can see the heritage pattern/feeling overtime. I guess I think he was much too literal in assuming that a pattern shown is the only one a designer could develop and not seeing the inherent creativity of the pattern. Who would think to use celery as a basis for a print?

Watching the runway show when the winner’s long black dress with white coat came down the runway and she took off the coat I actually gasped at how beautiful the dress was. I thought they all did a great job but the winner was my favorite of the night.

I loved seeing how supportive and encouraging the four women finalists were with each other
from the moment they returned to NY through the final days and the runway show
they were helping and cheering for each other. Really nice to see it.

ABSOLUTELY!!! Could you imagine any other contestants offering their fabric to help another?

I did not believe for a minute that Christian said to winner 2 days before the show “Oh, you need to cut the sleeves and make slits in the pants and redo the back here” and that was all accomplished before the show. Little too much staged drama there.

I did not like the dress she wore to the finals at all. I thought the color on her was drab and the dress boxy.

Didn’t like the black sparkly clothing Chastity made and Brandon can have those black furry pants he liked so much.

I liked half of Coral’s line, but too much black. Liked the man’s outfit and of course the final multicolored jacket with the black skirt.

I was also surprised by the elegance of their homes. In the past most of the designers were living in closets but this time they were in large homes.

Well, finally some interesting garments came down the runway.
I still didn’t get my breath taken away but I did drool a bit over that long coat Shantall made.

I enjoyed the final runway very much. It (the show, not just the garments) felt more polished than in prior seasons. They must be watching Next in Fashion with those crazy runways!

Anyway I’m delighted for the winner. And I was delighted to see the designers cheering one another on. I don’t need drama to enjoy a show.

Unfortunately Google spoilered me 10 minutes before I started watching. :frowning:

But I was a Shantel fan for awhile so I was happy for her.

The only big house I saw was Chasitys?? 2 of the others had very small what looked like Apartments! I mean they were making celery juice crammed in a corner!

I wondered what happened to Elaine? A little disappointing because I liked her as a judge.

Christina’s collection was fresh and fun. Coral is a sweetheart but her collection was not cohesive and dumb comment but her music was super underwhelming.

Chastity - I think I’ve decided what I don’t like about her stuff is it doesn’t look polished and expensive. Like a little cheap looking. I also don’t appreciate all the sparkle and beading which is just my own taste. I also think while she has come a long way I think she has some maturing to do to be able to take the tough criticism of the industry

While I probably wouldn’t chose Shantels designs last night for myself it looked cohesive and VERY well made. Her presentation - music and all - was good and powerful.

The fashion week set up did look cool but I also thought the camera footage of the models goi g down the aisle was super annoying! They kept focusing on that “X” carpet layout and I often felt like I barely got a good glance at an outfit!!!

I agree about the camera footage, something was definitely off about it.

I was listening to a podcast about PR, and had an ah-ha moment
I had a hard time putting into words what it was about Chasity’s garments that I couldn’t relate too
Texas pageant (cotillion) queen - it all felt very Miss America gownish to me in a way I just couldn’t get behind.

Initially I thought maybe Elaine had tested Covid+ but they still could have zoomed her in for critique. I hope she and her family are ok.

Tommy H
I just don’t think he was the right fill in - Coco was in the audience, so truly, they could have taken her on, or even Christian. I wonder why they opted for him and his (almost glow in dark) white sneakers.

I liked the finale!

Kristina - didn’t like the collection at first, but warmed up to it a bit.

Chastity - I was a disappointed - probably because she always looks so cool. I did like one or two of hers, but overall thought her collection looked showgirl-ish. And kind of cheap. And that all the black made for a drab show. And I don’t think you could see, and therefore appreciate, the details.

Coral - great show. I think I would like the macrame without the long pieces. I feel like the long pieces (fringe) make it look more 70s/less
cool/fashionable and maybe too taste specific? Thought the menswear was very cool. Loved the colorful jacket. Loved her embroidery.

Shantall - great show. Her collection looked classy, well made, and expensive.

I thought Shantall and Coral had the best collections.

On TV, I felt like black didn’t show the details well. Maybe it is different in-person?? Color seems to stand out more in a show.

I knew Tommy Hilfiger was going to comment on how commercial each collection was.

We watched online and there are little after show snippets also online. I wasn’t too happy that Kristina said about the outcome “I don’t think it was right”.

Where was Mimi?? They kick a$$.

I also wondered if Elaine has Covid.

Mimi???

I don’t think they could have Cristian as a judge because he was too involved in the process up to runway.

I hope they all get a break and some success

Agree that Christian was too close to be a judge.

Mimi was one of the models.

I don’t know why they made it seem that the models were just selected a couple of days before the runway. The contestants had to make the proportions of each garment fit a particular individual, so they must have known their models (and had their measurements) while creating the garments.

Actually, not necessarily - what a designer will often do is baste stich a garment in the areas that are most likely to need proper fitting, won’t add darts until the final fitting and doesn’t usually hem a garment until the final fitting. This is why you’ll see on Project Runway those last few hours before runway the designers still on the sewing machine. My D sends out garments to a client this way, and the client’s stylist usually has a team of seamstresses/tailors who do the final fitting fixes. In the final episode of PR this season Chasity still had zippers to add to her garments. This is why.

Had to come back to this thread and share that my sister in law texted me yesterday and she was in line at Mood behind
.Bones!!! She said he was so very pleasant and conversational and positive waiting his turn and conversing with the clerk.
