PROJECT WILDCAT- PRE ORIENTATION PROGRAM

Nervous about starting college? Making friends? Knowing what classes to take? Finding your place at a big university?

Project Wildcat is the perfect opportunity for any and all incoming freshman. The program is a week-long backpacking trip on the Superior Hiking Trail in Northern Minn. Incoming students are split into groups of 8-9 with two trained students as leaders.

On the trip, the campers are given the chance to reflect, learn about themselves, develop outdoor skills, learn a tremendous amount about Northwestern from their counselors, and make invaluable friendships before beginning school.

Here are a few quotes from our campers this past year:

“I know I am tough and I can always finds someone to trust and relate to. Also I know I have a PWild community to lean on.”

“The most important thing I’m learning on this trip is making new friends from so many different backgrounds. Talking to people form so many different backgrounds and upbringings is a huge part of PWild. Being able to relate to new people even though they’re different from you is going to be a huge part of Northwestern and belonging to the community. Thought I learned many valuable things so far, this is by far the most important.”

More than anything else I think the confidence my groups has given me will help in my career at NU. I am very confident in my ability to make friends. Multiple times on this trip people have come up to me and complimented me on my attitude and over personality."
