<p>My advice to you would be that you should never have to pay to participate in great opportunities. I know from reading various college admissions books that adcoms are not impressed by experiences where you only had to fork over $2k or more to be involved. You should look for opportunities where you must apply and be awarded the chance to go and do good. Those things look better and they will probably be more rewarding anyway.</p>
