Prom DRESSES. (Pretty much only applies to girls)

haha just a little foot note to go along w/ my get it soon in the event it needs to get ordered.....

my dress won't be here until a week before prom. A WEEK!!! AHHHH!!!

yeah that dress really does seem like a modern day Belle, CoffeeAddict. i like it despite it's paris hilton-ness :P

Already got mine for $25. This really nice looking white sparkly dress with a crystal (haha, username) and gold brooch in the center. really wide silk straps and a sorta low cut (which I'm gonna sew up cuz it's a bit TOO low) in the front and it's BEAUTIFUL :D

But yeah, I'm 5'2" and sorta not the skinniest person in the world, but for some reason this dress is really flowy so it doesn't show at all.

I wish I could pull off short dresses, but my family has thick legs so I can't =[

I kind of wish I would've worn a suit to my prom instead of my dress. It might make people think I was lesbian, but at least I would've looked good and there wasn't that much time left in high school anyway.

Here are the choices I'm contemplating for Prom. I love the midnight blue color of this one:

I like this one a lot too:

Adrianna Papell One Shoulder Beaded Jersey Gown - Nordstrom

Opinions?

Sigh, you materialistic girls.

GUElle - love both! You ladies have good taste. Does anyone else get those catalogues with the HORRIFYING prom dresses? Hilarious.

And it's okay to be materialistic while gushing over dresses (as long as you aren't an idiot in general). Girl power! Yay.

GUElle, I really like both dresses, but most people I know who decide to go strapless are really unhappy they did. When you're dancing the whole night you just keep having to pull your dress up and you can't move is freely for fear that you'll pop out.

i wonder if any companies or whatever make prom dresses for boyish figures.. and i mean like the whole almost V-shaped body thing... the whole poofy skirt / no-sleeves thing about prom dresses kinda makes it a nightmare to go to the prom if you don't have an hourglass or pear-shaped figure

Here is Ds prom dress. She bought it early January.

I got the color in the back girl is wearing; light purple and blue.
I love it :D

There are wide variety of prom dresses available. While prom does cost quite a bit of money, making efforts to save money, such as buying under $100 prom dresses, can really help the prom-goer have a better time and not kill their parents’ or their budget. You have to look good, but there are definitely ways to save and still look awesome - the effort is worth it.

We all have different tastes, and we all have different needs when it comes to buying prom dresses. There’s a great selection online for under $100 prom dresses, otherwise it would be difficult, if not impossible, to save substantial money on prom night. Prom dresses are the right stuff to wear at the parties.

previous two posters- bot alert! bot alert! :p

I got a tea-length dress because I didn't know how formal my school's prom was going to be.... but it's satin and strapless so it could go formal or semi-formal, I guess. Navy blue, because I couldn't decide what color I liked. I'll have to wear lots of colorful jewelry or something to spice it up...

At my school, we have a junior prom and a senior prom. Junior prom technically isn't prom. It's more like a dinner dance with mandatory roundtrip transportation and no dates allowed. Very non-traditional, but I like the way they do it. Pretty informal too. Suits are required for the guys, but only cocktail dresses for us girls.

Senior prom is the more traditional of the two. Only seniors and dates of seniors can attend. As I'm a junior, and I'm not dating a senior, I won't be going to senior prom, obviously. So my big dress choice is about junior prom.

I found this dress on the Jessica McClintock website about a year ago, and fell in love with it. It had a white top, with a v-neck, and about 1-inch straps, and had an empire waist that was belted by a big pink bow, and came down to a black, pleated chiffon skirt. It was absolutely gorgeous. I wasn't allowed to buy it at the time, but I went back every few weeks to "visit" or whatever. Last week, I went back to the website to actually purchase the dress. My junior prom is in April. And guess what? No dress. I guess Jessica McClintock did an overhaul of their inventory, and my dream dress is no more. So now I have to start from square one. I haven't found anything else yet.

As for senior prom, I know what I want exactly!

Apparently it comes in a purple color too. I have yet to see it in purple, but if it was a pretty violet color, that's what I'd want... so I have to work on contacting the retailer about that.

Okay, so I have this Jessica McClintock dress…

BUT, I’m afraid it’s too short. It’s not like I’m too much of a prude to wear a short dress, but since Prom is a formal, aren’t people supposed to buy a longer dress? Does this mean I should buy a longer dress, which might be more appropriate?

I ended up getting this dress. Prom’s the 18th, so I’ll be wearing it then! My mother made me pay $50 of the price, but since she’s letting me have a mani/pedi and my hair done, I think it’s cool.

Modulation, a lot of people I know are wearing short dresses, but most people I know are juniors like me. A lot of people here do a short dress for junior prom and a long dress for senior prom. I think I might do a short dress next year too because long dresses are more expensive, harder to dance in, and, since I’m a shortie, usually way, way too long. I’d say, go with whatever you look good in.

Millancad, nice dress! I love the layers!

I went with a long dress last year (my junior year) and was adamant about purchasing another one. But I saw my short dress and fell in love!

Mind you, the bodice has sequins and sparkles in real life…I made sure it was fancy. ;)

Hahahaha

Aah! I still don’t really have a dress. :(
