My schools prom was last night and everyone kept telling me that I should attend it or else I would regret it so I decided to go to get out the house for a few hours. Throughout the whole night I did not feel like prom was different from any other dance I have been to, not to say I did not enjoy myself, but I don't understand the hype though I noticed the girls were more excited about it while the guys were kind of indifferent.

Nope. Prom is awesome. Mine was anyway. You gotta find the right ways to have fun and me and my girlfriend definately def. found a out a way to have fun.

It’s overrated to think of Prom as the best night of your teen life or the culmination of your entire high school experience, yes. But it can certainly be a fun dance.

Yeah I agree. Some of my classmates were saying how they’ve been waiting forever for prom night and etc… and I didn’t see the appeal, but I had fun dancing.

i think it depends on the school
i’m a junior and i went to senior prom and it was really fun cuz everyone there was so hyped up and enthusiastic lol
and it’s the last time everyone’s together cept for graduation

Yes. And, later in life you will also find that New Year’s Eve is overrated. But, as an adult I am glad that you went. Don’t underestimate the fact that you will never regret having gone, but you might have later regretted not having gone. Some things are just about being a part of the culture. Like fourth of july and thanksgiving…it’s just a part of having been in an American highschool. Prom is uniquely U.S. But, yes, like anything else they make movies about, it tends to be pretty overrrated.

I know kids that put on a suit they have, and take the bus. Prom is what you make it to be. It could be the night of your life to you, with all the trappings of upper middle class spending, or it could just be a modestly dressed final parting dance with your high school class.

Gryffon that is not to say that prom wasn’t one a fantastic night for me, it was but I didn’t/couldn’t spend all that money on a new tux and a limo. I think it’s the OC and Gossip Girl that is giving society the idea that if you spend a load of money you will have the night of your life. My night was proof that you don’t need a to spend loads of cash to have an epic night.
