Prom is overrated

My schools prom was last night and everyone kept telling me that I should attend it or else I would regret it so I decided to go to get out the house for a few hours. Throughout the whole night I did not feel like prom was different from any other dance I have been to, not to say I did not enjoy myself, but I don't understand the hype though I noticed the girls were more excited about it while the guys were kind of indifferent.

Anyone else feel the same way?

Nope. Prom is awesome. Mine was anyway. You gotta find the right ways to have fun and me and my girlfriend definately def. found a out a way to have fun.

I couldn’t agree with you anymore.Prom is stupid and overrated imho. It’s just probably another marketing scheme.

Are you trying to convince me or yourself? ;)

I didn’t even go to prom.

“Are you trying to convince me or yourself?”

I didn’t go there with that expectation, how many times do you want me to say it for you to get it?

"I didn’t even go to prom. "

That’s nice.

i had a blast at mine. but if you’re going to go expecting it to be stupid, it will be stupid for you.

i find it a good reason to look pretty, wear a long dress, and have fun with your friends. i went dateless on purpose.

and hey, at least you can say you went to prom. you wouldn’t know you wouldn’t like it unless you went. and you did. so there.

“i had a blast at mine. but if you’re going to go expecting it to be stupid, it will be stupid for you.”

Lol I didn’t expect it to be stupid or anything like that, I just didn’t understand why everyone(mostly girls) were excited about it.)

"i find it a good reason to look pretty, wear a long dress, and have fun with your friends. i went dateless on purpose. "

I guess that’s part of me answer lol.

"and hey, at least you can say you went to prom. you wouldn’t know you wouldn’t like it unless you went. and you did. so there. "

That’s what I told myself at the end of the night. I did like staying out until 4 in the morning haha.

It’s overrated to think of Prom as the best night of your teen life or the culmination of your entire high school experience, yes. But it can certainly be a fun dance.

It’s overrated to think of Prom as the best night of your teen life or the culmination of your entire high school experience, yes. But it can certainly be a fun dance.

Yeah I agree. Some of my classmates were saying how they’ve been waiting forever for prom night and etc… and I didn’t see the appeal, but I had fun dancing.

Well… if you have girlfriends, it’s really more for them than us… Why not make the most of it and make her feel special?

Prom is overrated; After-Prom is the ****!

*Prom is overrated; After-Prom is the ****! *

afterprom was pretty cool. we had a student from our school DJ and he played better songs than what the DJ at prom played.

yeah i think its pretty whack. its just like every other dance, so nothing special.

i think it depends on the school
i’m a junior and i went to senior prom and it was really fun cuz everyone there was so hyped up and enthusiastic lol
and it’s the last time everyone’s together cept for graduation

Yes. And, later in life you will also find that New Year’s Eve is overrated. But, as an adult I am glad that you went. Don’t underestimate the fact that you will never regret having gone, but you might have later regretted not having gone. Some things are just about being a part of the culture. Like fourth of july and thanksgiving…it’s just a part of having been in an American highschool. Prom is uniquely U.S. But, yes, like anything else they make movies about, it tends to be pretty overrrated.

" I couldn’t agree with you anymore.Prom is stupid and overrated imho. It’s just probably another marketing scheme. "

How the hell is prom a marketing scheme? What are they trying to market? It’s a traditional dance for high school ffs.

"How the hell is prom a marketing scheme? What are they trying to market? It’s a traditional dance for high school ffs. "

I think he is talking about how everyone thinks they HAVE to get a tux, rent a limo, spend 500$ on a dress to wear for one night, etc…

“I think he is talking about how everyone thinks they HAVE to get a tux, rent a limo, spend 500$ on a dress to wear for one night, etc…”

Can most people afford to do that? I wore the clothes my dad wore to his wedding and took the friggin subway to the prom!

^ exactly.

I know kids that put on a suit they have, and take the bus. Prom is what you make it to be. It could be the night of your life to you, with all the trappings of upper middle class spending, or it could just be a modestly dressed final parting dance with your high school class.

Gryffon that is not to say that prom wasn’t one a fantastic night for me, it was but I didn’t/couldn’t spend all that money on a new tux and a limo. I think it’s the OC and Gossip Girl that is giving society the idea that if you spend a load of money you will have the night of your life. My night was proof that you don’t need a to spend loads of cash to have an epic night.
